Tamil Culture Icon Thiruvalluvar's Statue Unveiled in France

Tamil icon Thiruvalluvar's statue was unveiled in the French town of Cergy on Sunday in a major cultural and historical relation. Thiruvalluvar is considered a cultural icon by the Tamils. The statue was gifted by the Tamil Cultural Association of France.

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the inauguration of the Thiruvalluvar statue implements an assurance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Paris for the Bastille Day Ceremony in July.

Inauguration of Thiruvalluvar Statue in Cergy:

External Affairs Minister said the 'Statue' will be a guide to follow Thiruvalluvar's noble thoughts. It is yet another symbol of our long-standing cultural links, a key pillar in Indo-French relations.

India's envoy to France Jawed Ashraf also wrote on X about the inauguration of the Statue in Cergy town. He wrote, 

"Fulfilling an assurance given by PM........ Inaugurated Thiruvalluvar statue in Cergy near Paris, gifted ......Tamil Cultural Association France, with Mayor @ Jp_ jean don, Minister K Laxminarayan from Puducherry,..... Governor of Eastern Province of Sri Lanka."

About The Tamil Icon Thiruvalluvar:

Thiruvalluvar is popularly known as 'Valluvar'. He is a revered Indian poet and philosopher. He is renowned for his notable contributions to literature. Tirukkural is his most celebrated work that comprises couplets covering a wide array of life.

These couplets cover many subjects like ethics, politics, economics, and love. His work is considered a masterpiece and regarded as high high-value and revered exceptional piece of Tamil literature. His couplets hold profound significance in the cultural and intellectual heritage of India.

Thiruvalluvar has reasonable as well as revolutionary ideas. However, most of his work has a reasonable tone. He has dismissed the cast system in his writing. Thiruvalluvar said, " One is not great because of one's birth in a noble family or one is not low because of one's low birth."

The great poet maintained that goodness is its reward and should not be regarded as a mere means to a comfortable afterlife.
