India won a record 107 medals in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. It is the first time for the Nation 'India' in 72 years to reach the triple-figure mark milestone.

Historic Achievements by The Indian Players:
The 19th edition of the quadrennial Games is held between September 22- October 8, 2023, in the Public's Republic of China. India performed exceptionally in many sections, like athletics, shooting, kabaddi, cricket, archery, etc.
As Prime Minister Narender Modi said, "India created History in the Asian Games" by clinching more than 100 medals while addressing participants at the venue of the Premier Asian Games Stadium.

This is the first time when the sub-continent hit the tone in the continental Games and became the fourth country to cross the 100 medals tally. India unprecedentially won 107 medals, including 28 golds, 38 silvers, and 41 bronzes.
Major achievement sports sections:
Athletics is one of the most productive sports sections in the 2023 Asian Games for India. There are a total of 29 medals - 6 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Even in track and field sections, players rewrite three national records.
In archery, Indians broke their past achievements under the Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale. India won 9 medals including the 5 golds. India had only 10 medals tally in the previous 18 editions.
This was the first time Indian men's and women's cricket teams participated in the Asian Games. In both categories, Indian teams clinched gold medals.
Shooting is another sport where India won 22 medals. It includes 7 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze.
India won the gold medal in equestrian after 42 years in both the individual and team categories.
India's Para Sports Contingent Made History With 111 Asiad Medals
Historic Medal Tally of India in Asian Games:
India had hosted the first Asian Games in 1951. It has been the powerhouse since and participated in all editions of it. The following table shows India's medal tally in the past few Asian Games.
However, India had scored the 2nd rank in its first Asian Games in New Delhi. India had won 51 medals after only Japan with 60.

Although that position is still far away, the testament of players proves gradual progress in the previous games. India could reach that level again due to its sports policy, like "Khelo India" as the prime minister hopes.
