Indian Tennis Star Rohan Bopanna created history on 27 January 2024 after clinching the Australian Open crown in Melbourne. Bopanna became the oldest man in the World No. 1 spot in the men's double.

He won the prestigious Grand Slam Series event at the age of 43. According to analysts, age is just a number for him at the level he has been playing the sport. Bopanna, along with Australian partner Mathew Ebden, won the men's doubles at the season's first Grand Slam tournament.

The Landmark Victorius Moment For Rohan Bopanna:

The victory was a landmark moment for Indian tennis and Rohan Bopanna at the 43-years age. He became only the second Indian after Leander Paes in 2012 to win the crown at Melbourne Park. Rohan was thrilled and expressed with India Today in an exclusive conversation,

"It's not feeling on top of the world. I am on top of the world, being.......number one. So definitely,.......... nothing better than being at level 43 and No. 1."

Rohan said growing up as a tennis player, you just want to try and be the best tennis player at all levels. You first want to be the best player in your neighborhood, then probably it starts...., with the best player at the district level, then your state, and at the country level. Then, of course, you want to go on and become No.1 at the world level.

Proud and Inspirational Moment for Tennis Lovers:

I am proud to be at this stage today. Rohan shared that he was touched by the heart-warming reception that he has got from not just the Indian fans but from across the world.

Bopanna specifically mentioned the love and tribute the Amul has shown in its poster. Bopanna shared that yesterday as I landed at the airport, there was a fantastic reception from the airport staff. It goes then from my family and friends to everyone who had come to the airport to receive me.

Otherwise, it is always 'Quietly come, and you know, and take your car and go back home, but this time it was a full-fledged welcome. I am very emotional to have so much love. I am really thankful for all the support not only from India but across the world.

Nothing Has Come Easy for Rohan:

Rohan Bopanna's storied tennis career, nothing has come easy for him. The Coorg Star won his first major title at the mixed double French Open. He partnered with Gabriella Dabriwski, and the pair won the mixed doubles crown.

As usual, expectations shout up after his performance on the red dirt that year, but the men's doubles crown kept away. Rohan said he had thought of quitting the sport several times, in the past.

During his heart-warming victory speech in Melbourne, Bopanna mentioned that he had texted his wife in 2021 about hanging up his boots. In some or other way, somehow, today I'm happy that I continued. It is incredible to achieve this Grand Slam triumph like everything and be part of this journey.

Bopanna and Ebden Dream Pair:

In the year 2023, Rohan had multiple partners, like Matwe Middlekoop, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Jamie Murry, and Denis Shaoivalov. Rohan finished this year with a win-loss ratio of 45-25.

However, the partnership with Mathew Ebden has added a new lease of life to his hunger for winning major trophies. The duo joined hands at the Australian Open 2023, but the pair suffered a first-round exit.

It all changed with the ATP 250 title-winning in Doha in February. The Duo star won the prestigious Indian Wells Masters in March in the US. On clay, both reached the Madrid Masters final and on a grass court, at the Wimbledon semi-final.

Rohan Bopanna and his partner Mathew Ebden became the oldest Grand Slam men's doubles finalists in the US Open 2023.

Thanks and Regards
