Airport Authority said the terminal's facade building depicts the architecture of Ayodhya's Ram Mandir. The interiors of the terminal building are bejeweled with local art pieces, paintings, and murals showcasing the life of Lord Ram.

The airport terminal also consists of various sustainability features. These include an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, and a water treatment plant.

The architect of Ayodhya Airport is designed by Vipul Varshney. He created the aerodrome structure from the inspiration of Lord Ram's life. Mr. Varshney used the Nagara architectural style to build the airport. Nagara's Architectural style is quite famous in the northern or western regions of the country.

It has seven mountain peaks or 'shikaras' as per the Kanda Ramayan version. The India railways have also changed the Ayodhya railway station from 'Ayodhya Junction' to 'Ayodhya Dham Junction'.

Janakpur Indispensable From Ayodhya Like Sister City; Nepal Ambassador

According to Nepal's Ambassador to India Shankar Prasad Sharma, we are hoping pilgrims from across the world, who visit Ram's birthplace, will also visit Sita's birthplace.

Sister City Relationship Between Janakpur and Ayodhya:

Nepal's Ambassador said that both countries are working to establish a 'sister city relationship' between Janakpur and Ayodhya. He has been pitching Janakpur as an indispensable part of the Ramayan circuit ahead of the grand inauguration temple opening ceremony.

Mr. Sharma highlighted the Indian government plan in 2014, the Ramayan circuit retraces the life of Lord Ram and includes major pilgrim sites related to the Ramayan, along with Janakpur in Nepal.

He was speaking in a seminar organized by the Incredible Chamber of India in coordination with the Nepal Embassy last week on the Ramayan Circuit. He said to the Indian Express,

"After the Ram temple inauguration, the number of devotees will be more than doubled. Ayodhya is becoming more prominent............., so is Janakpur."

There is great road and rail connectivity from India to Nepal. They are developing further even within Nepal too.

Janakpur Indispensable From Ayodhya:

Janakpur earlier known as 'Mithila' is the birthplace of  Lord Ram consort Sita. Janaki Mandir, the birth site of Sita Mata, embodies the cultural heritage of Nepal. The cultural and religious pilgrim has become one of the major components for strengthening ties between India and Nepal.

With India and Nepal working jointly on the Ramayan circuit, Janakpur is a vital part. It will add to and aid tourism development in both countries. There are people in Thailand and Indonesia who also know about Ram and Sita. These places will interest them.

India-Nepal Shares Cultural and Religious Bondage:

Other than Janakpur and Ayodhya's sister city relationship, Nepal also has a Balmiki Ashram, like one in India. Sharma said Nepalese believe it is the original religious retreat where Sita spent several months.

This shows how so many people in Nepal love the Ramayan philosophy and ideals of Lord Ram. Nepal has also focused on supporting, developing, and promoting the Ramayan circuit in Nepal as well as in India.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, there are 15 thematic circuits from the Ramayan circuit and Buddhist circuit. These are the only two transnational circuits that include Nepal.

Janakpur Mayor Manoj Sah shared his thoughts during the event and said during his visit to Janakpur in 2018. PM Modi had announced a Rs 100 crore grant to develop the area. The project is in process and will be completed soon. During the Nepal PM visit earlier this year, PM Modi said that the Ramayan circuit was a 'connection between both countries'.

India Again Topped The List Of Recipients Of Remittances Globally

India has again topped the list of recipients of remittances globally in 2023. According to the World Bank's latest Migration and Development Brief with an anticipated surge of over 11 percent, India received $125 billion.

This growth solidifies India's position. It takes ahead of countries like China and Mexico. The report by Moneycontrol underscored the importance of remittances to the Indian economy. It is helping in offsetting the impact of declining foreign direct investment and higher trade deficits.

World Bank Listed India Again on Top:

According to the World Bank's Migration and Development Report 2023, India has received more than double China's remittances globally. China received $50 billion with a third position. Mexico listed 2nd with a $67 billion.

The World Bank highlighted a global growth of approximately 3.8 % in remittances in 2023, a total of $669 billion. The resilient labor markets like advanced economies and Gulf Cooperation Council [GCC] countries contribute the maximum to send money back home.

However, the World Bank expressed concern about the decline in real income for migrants in 2024 due to the backdrop of global inflation and low growth prospects.

This year, India's remittances would be double that of China. In 2022 too, Indian remittances [$111 Billion] were more than double China's $51 billion.

Data from the World Bank shows that in 2023, Mexico will emerge as the second after India with an inflow of $67 billion. China will follow with $50 billion, the Philippines with $40 billion, and Egypt with $24 billion. Egypt has replaced the Pakistan from its 5th position.

India's Enhanced Steps To Attract More Remittances:

According to economic analysts, remittances can play a critical role in improving a country's ability to repay debt. They may even serve as collateral to lower the costs of international borrowing for national banks in developing economies.

The 'digitalization' process, especially through UPI payments, in India has facilitated higher remittance inflows into India according to reports. The report stated,

"Mobile phones and digitalization have revolutionized India's fintech ecosystem,...........positive spillovers for Indian migrants...........remit funds to India."

The report further added the government's initiatives such as the launch of Unified Payments Interface [UPI-PayNow] linkage for cross-border remittances between India and Singapore in February 2023.

It is being extended to other countries to reduce transaction costs and facilitate higher remittance flows. India's remittances are expected to touch $135 billion in 2024 because of unemployment rates edging up marginally in the US and the UK.

Remittance Growth in South Asia and Other Regions:

In terms of regional remittance growth, Latin America and the Caribbean saw the highest growth of remittances at 8% followed by South Asia with 7.2%.

According to the World Bank's report, remittance flows to South Asia were estimated to reach $189 billion this year and its growth is attributable entirely to remittance flows to India.

The report further said this regional average growth was the outcome of high growth in one-half of the South Asian nations like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka and declines in the other half countries Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, and Pakistan.

As of September 2023 data, non-resident Indians deposited an amount of %143 billion, an increase of over $10 billion year-on-year. Many countries like India have set up saving programs to attract foreign currency deposits from their non-resident citizens.

These sets usually come with incentives like being repatriable, yielding higher interest rates, and tax exemptions. This comes despite a slew of new migration measures from Western countries, like the UK's restrictions on overseas workers, and Australia's new rules for additional security.

India Votes For Shifting Global Tax Reins From OECD In The UN

In a major move in the UN, India votes for shifting global tax reins from the OECD. India is among 125 countries that voted in favor of a resolution calling for a UN Tax Convention. It would change the global tax scenario.

UN Global Tax Resolution

According to tax experts in India as well as at the global level, It is a historic move in the sense of a more equitable tax system that will shift the reins of decision-making from the OECD.

Indian GDP To Take Over Japan By 2030; S&P Global

WhyIndia Favors Shifting Global Tax Reins From OECD:

The OECD governs the current tax system globally. It is a 38-member group mainly dominated by rich countries, like the US, UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, France, Germany, etc.

According to Parmod Kumar, former vice president at the income-tax appellate tribunal, the current taxation rules are generally biased towards capital-exporting countries and the OECD perspective and their commentaries.

The OECD Forum
The OECD Forum [Credit-Finacial Times]

The OECD Forum works on the 'Two Pillar Solution.' Pillar one deals with taxation in the digital economy, the granting of tax rights, and the allocation of profits of MNEs to customer-based countries. Pillar two prescribes an effective minimum tax rate globally.

The OECD has an Inclusive Forum to deal with a range of issues. It is not an inter-governmental body but works together in collaboration with non-OECD member countries.

However, many countries like India have concerns about the method of allocation of profits to source countries under Pillar One. According to experts, the UN Framework could help developing countries get a better say.

The UN Convention on Shifting Global Tax Reins From OECD:

The resolution was passed by the UN General Assembly in a ratio of 125:48 in New York on Wednesday. The OECD member countries voted against the resolution while India, other BRICS nations, Brazil, Russia, and China voted in favor. African nations have tabled the resolution.

The UN Resolution Tabled By African Nations
The UN Resolution Tabled By African Nations [Credit-Africa Tax Review]

The new UN resolution calls for the creation of an ad-hoc inter-governmental committee. There should be no more than 20 member states while taking into consideration gender and regional balance.

The OECD has an Inclusive Forum to deal with a range of issues. It is not an inter-governmental body but works together in collaboration with non-OECD member countries.

Under the new resolution, there is a two-step taxation formation procedure adopted. The first step is that within a year to reach an agreement on the terms of reference. The second step is to develop a UN Framework Convention on International Tax Co-operation.

A think tank, The Tax Justice Network, has welcomed the UN resolution. It assumed that the world would lose nearly $5 trillion to tax havens over the next decade if the new UN tax convention was not applied.

After the adoption of the new UN tax convention, the inherent bias of current taxation towards the OECD would become much less relevant and provide the way to a new path.

Mark Mobius Said India Will Get More Money Normally Then China

In the new resolution, a wide range of issues, like aggressive tax avoidance and evasion, illicit financial flows, recovery of stolen assets, and even taxation of the digital economy could be included in the reference term.

According to tax experts, practically the new arrangement will achieve a fair share of taxes to the source jurisdictions. The source jurisdiction means the customers-based approach like India. It would indeed provide the developing world with a global consensus on fair and equitable international tax rules.

Cash Trapped Pakistan Imposes Exit Fee on Afghan Refugees

A shocking move by the Pakistani authorities, cash-trapped Pakistan now imposes an '$830 exit fee' on Afghan Refugees. The nation has come under fire for this move of imposing an exit fee.

Afghan Refugees, who left their country in August 2021 from fear of Taliban's persecution, are waiting for the western nations human resetllement schemes. According to sources, each refugee is charged about $830.

India's Diplomatic Move Followed Against Canada In The UNHRC

Pakistan's Exit Fee on Afghan Refugees is Shocking and Frustrating:

Western countries' diplomats and the United Nation have condemned the Pakistani move. They described it as "shocking and frustrating." A senior diplomat responded The Guardian question, "I know it is very tough economically for Pakistan but really, to try to make money off refugees is really unattractive."

The diplomat further added that the issue has also been raised by the two UN agencies, the UN refugee agency [UNHCR] and the international organization of migration [IOM].

The diplomat also mentioned that it has been raised in capitals and headquarters. I suspect everyone has passed the message and Afghan refugees concerns to their Pakistani counterparts.

Pakistan's Stand on Exit Fee for Afghan Refugees:

Pakistan had set the 1st November deadline for Afghan refugees to leave. After the expiration of the deadline, Pakistan began the mass deportation process of undocumented Afghans.

According to Pakistani authorities, thousands of Afghans with expired visas or incorrect documents have been living in the country since the Taliban took over  power in 2021. These refugees are waiting to restart their work in western countries because most of them are eligible on humanitarian grounds.

According to reports, the UK government has planned to settle 20,000 Afghanis while the Biden-led government in the US has agreed to settle 25,000 Afghans.

As per the Pakistan rules, Afghan refugees can only pay the amount $830 via credit cards. The bitter truth is that maximum refugees do not have access to credit cards. Another diplomat said that we need to adopt the cooperative approach to help refugees.

Even Pakistani official flagged their concerns initially when they were told to charge $1000 but the amount was later reduced to $830. A diplomat added that if Pakistan wants to facilitate the process of settlement of refugees in the west then they should not make it more complicated.

Other than Indian diplomat, Bangladesh diplomat Abdullah Al Forhad urged Canada to intensify its efforts to combat racism, hate speech, hate crimes, and discrimination against migrants and Muslim minorities.

Sri Lankan diplomat Thilini Jayasekara also urged Canada to agree to the Convention on the Protection of Rights of All Migrant Workers in spirit and words. Take essential steps to combat racial discrimination, oppose misinformation against minorities, and follow up on global human rights recommendations.

Trudeau spoke out to the media that if bigger countries can violate international law without consequences, then the whole world gets more dangerous for everyone. He further added we reached out to our friends and allies, like the US, to work on this serious violation.

India has rejected Canada's accusation and made it clear that this is not India's way of functioning. New Delhi has provided evidence to Canada how their soil has been a safe haven for terrorists and urged them to act against those.

India suspended visa services in Canada in September which has now been partially restored. India also accused Canadian diplomats of interfering in India's internal matters and shifted 40 of them.
