Mr. Oommen noted that Jio is in partnership with Luxembourg-based satellite provider SES and is well-positioned to launch broadband-from-space services.

He further highlighted Jio's unique position as the first non-geostationary satellite provider (NGSO) in India. Mr. Mathew was boasting gigabit-capable NGSO operations not easily matched by other providers in the near term.

Reliance Jio NGSO v/s Airtel One Web Satellite broadband services:

A senior official from Jio said Airtel OneWeb, backed by the Bharti Group, should not underestimate the competition posed by Jio's NGSO satellite Broadband services. Jio NGSO has already established a gateway and showed a 1 Gbps broadband connectivity. This feat might not be easily matched by competitors shortly.

Mr. Mathew said,

We never underestimate our competition. And I hope he (Sunil Mittal) doesn't either.

Mr. Oommen has responded to earlier remarks by Sunil Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, who had identified Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon as the only competitors for OneWeb satellite communication services over the next 5-6 years.

OneWeb Satellite Service Ready To Roll Over The Country From Next Month; Sunil Mittal

The battle for dominance in broadband-from-space services would be the next frontier after the mobility sector. Both are the competitors and the industrial titans Mukesh Ambani, who owns Jio Satellite, and Sunil Mittal, whose Bharti Enterprises holds a significant stake in OneWeb.

They will face competition from world-renowned players like Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon's Project Kuiper, all eager to launch services swiftly and gain a first-mover advantage.

Mr. Oommen put his views on global competition also

, “I think they (Starlink) should come. In the US, there is an opportunity for Starlink, let them come in, they need to figure out what their business model in India could be.”

Recently, Sunil Mittal revealed One Web's readiness to connect all parts of India from the next month in the mobile congress. Oommen also responded to queries about pricing for Jio NGSO satellite broadband communication services and assured that Jio consistently offers competitive services in any industry it enters.

However, he has expressed support for conducting auctions as the sole method for allocating satcom airwaves, which is against the OneWeb approach. Mr. Mathew emphasized that satellite companies would offer services similar to those of telecom operators.

Although the satellite communications market in India is in its early stages, it has potential, particularly in rural and remote areas. According to an EY-ISpA report, India's space economy is projected to reach $13 billion by 2025 and has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6%.

U.S. President Joe Biden's instinct IMEEC could be the reason for the Hamas-Israel attack. For the second time in a week, the President made a statement that one of the reasons for the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel was the recent announcement of the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor [IMEEC] during the G-20 Summit in New Delhi.

Israel has retaliated with a massive counter-offensive against Hamas after unprecedented attacks by the militant group on October 7 killed more than 1,400 and abducted 200 people.

Mr. Biden's Instinct IMEEC Behind War and not Proof:

In a joint press meet with the visiting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Mr. Biden said that his analysis is based on his instinct and does not have any proof. This is the second time in a week.

I'm convinced one of the reasons Hamas attacked when they did, and I have no proof of this, just my instinct tells me, is because of the progress we were making towards regional integration for Israel, and regional integration overall. We can’t leave that work behind.”

Saudi Prince Turki Al Faisal Showed A Path For Palestine-Resolution

India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor [IMEEC]:

The new ambitious economic corridor was jointly announced by the leaders of the U.S., India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union on the sidelines of the G20 summit in September.

The corridor comprises an eastern corridor connecting India to the Gulf region and a northern corridor connecting the Gulf region to Europe. It may be seen as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative by many.

Mr. Biden ensured over the past few weeks to leaders throughout the region, including King Abdullah of Jordan, President Sisi of Egypt, President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia that there's real hope in the region for a better future about the need to work toward a greater integration for Israel while insisting that the aspirations of the Palestinian people will be part, will be part of that future as well.

Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyam Is The 128th Constitution Amendment Act

About Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyan Bill 2023:

Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyam

Awaiting for a long time, the Women's Reservation Bill has been passed by the Parliament of India on 23 September 2023. This bill is named the "Nari Shakti Vandana Adhininym" bill. We will discuss the current amendment, its historical background, and the proportions of women in legislatures at the world level in this article.

The Women's Reservation Bill got the support of almost all political parties. It gained 454 votes in favor a mere 2 votes in opposition in the Lok Sabha and a unanimous support in the Rajya Sabha. Under Article 330, a new subclause is added and reads as ‘330 a’ for the provision of women reservation in the Parliament and State Legislatures.

Now more than 50% of states need to rectify it. As per the Constitution Amendment [Article-368] Act, if a Parliament law affects the states directly, it needs rectification by more than 50% of states to implement it. It seems easy to rectify the bill because almost all parties favor the bill in parliament that leads the States’ Governments.

Provisions of The Nari Shakti Vandana Adhiniyam:

1). As per the amendment, women would have a reservation of 33% seats in directly elected bodies of Parliament and State Legislatures.

2). The act will be implemented after the Delimitation Process that is scheduled to occur in 2026.

3). As per the other clause, the first census after passing out the law would be the base for reservation.

4). The reservation will be applied for 15 years for the first time and will gradually increase as per the will of Parliament.

5). The amendment also has a provision for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes women would be benefited.

History of the current women's reservation bill:

On the very first day of the Constituent Assembly of India on 9 December 1946, Smt. Srojini Naidu was the only woman sitting in the Constitution Hall. The first time, the women's reservation bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Sh. H.D. Devegoda's government in 1996.

History of Women's Reservation Bill

It was reintroduced in 1997, 1998, and 2008 again but could not succeed. The bill lapsed due to the dissolution of the Lok Sabha and in the absence of consensus among political parties.

As Prime Minister Sh. Narender Modi said, “ He had been chosen by God for the noble task of giving rights to women.”

Women's Reservation status at the world level:

There are many countries in the world which considered less developed but provide a higher proportion of women representatives in their respective legislatures. Countries like Nepal, Mexico, South Africa, etc. have more women candidates in their Parliaments than India.

We could see different methods of more women representation than direct election in legislatures. Some countries provide quotas at the political party level while some countries have multiple constituent seats to adjust women's representation. The above link will provide full details.

It is affecting major natural resources like drinking water, food production, and human-related resources like manufacturing, sanitation, livelihood, and health security.

According to the 5th Assessment Report of IPCC in 2007 on vulnerability, “vulnerability to climate change broadly as the propensity to be adversely affected. Vulnerability encompasses a variety of concepts and elements including sensitivity to harm and lack of capacity to cope and adapt”.

India's National Action Plan and Nation's Adaptation Policy:

According to Beernaet & Malone's report [2005], India is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. It has high physical exposure to climate-related disasters, like 65% drought-prone, 12% food-prone, and 8% cyclones.

NAPCC Adaptation

It majorly depends on climate-sensitive sectors, like agriculture, forest, tourism, animal husbandry, and fisheries. The Government of India is serious about the climate change scenario.

Adaptation:

The UNFCCC defines adaptation as” steps to protect countries and communities from the likely disruption and damage that will result from effects of climate change”. Simply, in the human system, adaptation states to moderate harm or exploit beneficial opportunities.

Stages of Adaptation Process:

The following are the adaptation steps that will remain the same at every administration level.

  • Identifying the needs

  • Identifying the options.

  • Appraising the options.

  • Planning and implementation.

  • Monitoring and evaluation

India’s National Action Plan for Climate Change [NAPCC] :

India launched eight national missions to combat climate change under the National Action Plan on Climate Change [NAPCC] in 2008. These missions are solar energy, energy efficiency, sustainable habitat, water, forestry, agriculture, Himalayan ecosystem, and strategic knowledge.

It aims to enhance water use efficiency and promote sustainable water management practices.

4). National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture:

Agriculture is a crucial sector in India. The aim of this mission is to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices. Soil Health Card is one such initiative to enhance the capacity of farmers and mitigate climatic conditions.

5). National Mission on Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem:

This mission has been dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. It focuses on conserving biodiversity, improving forest cover, and reducing vulnerability to climatic change disasters.

6). National Mission for a Green India:

One of the most critical missions. It aims at increasing forest and tree cover, restoring degraded ecosystems, and promoting biodiversity conservation.

National-level tree plantation drive is an example of sequestering carbon and enhancing ecological resilience.

7). National Mission for Sustainable Habitat:

As India is moving towards rapid urbanization, this mission seeks to promote sustainable urban planning and development. It emphasizes energy-efficient building design, public transportation, and waste management.

8). National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change:

This mission aims to enhance climate-related research, capacity building, and the development of indigenous technologies. It strengthens India's ability to assess and respond to climate change impacts

In addition to these missions, the NAPCC also includes measures for promoting sustainable forestry practices and encouraging public-private partnerships to support climate action.

The NAPCC reflects India's commitment to a low-carbon development pathway and its determination to address the challenges of climate change while simultaneously pursuing economic growth and poverty reduction.
